This procedure may be of value to you if you have imperfections or problems like irregularly shaped or slightly overlapping teeth, tiny chips or cracks in the teeth, or excessively pointy cuspid teeth. Dental contouring only eliminates small imperfections and is best for people who just need tiny adjustments or repairs to improve the look and feel of their teeth.
Dental contouring, also known as tooth reshaping, removes small amounts of tooth enamel (the outer covering of the tooth) in order to change the shape, length or surface of one or more teeth. The process is often combined with “bonding”, a treatment that uses tooth-coloured composite material to sculpt and shape the teeth.
Composite bonding is a relatively simple and inexpensive way to correct disfigured, discoloured or decayed teeth, or close gaps between teeth. After removing the damaged or unsightly portion of the tooth, we apply a composite resin filling that looks and feels remarkably like the enamel to the remainder of your tooth. We then meticulously mold and sculpt the resin to match the tooth’s original appearance.
Little changes can make a big difference. Even a few millimeters of reshaping in the right places can improve the appearance of your teeth. Talk to our dentists to see if dental contouring and/or composite bonding is right for you.
